4 Myths About Electricity That Will Impact How Much Energy Your HVAC System Uses

There are various myths concerning your HVAC system that should be debunked to help you get the best performance and efficiency from your system. The facts can also lead to energy savings, which all Southwest Florida homeowners appreciate.

Here are three of the most prevalent myths and the real truth:

MYTH #1: You can warm up the house faster by turning up the thermostat to a higher temperature than desired.
FACT: Turning the thermostat to a higher temperature than desired to heat the house won’t make the air warmer faster. You do run the risk, however, of overshooting the desired temperature. For the greatest efficiency, consider a programmable thermostat.
MYTH #2: Insulating the ceiling will cause more heat to leak out the windows.
FACT: In cooler months, an insulated ceiling will lower heating costs and won’t increase the pressure on other areas if they’re just as well insulated. Sealing air leaks, however, is essential to optimizing efficiency.
MYTH #3: An efficient HVAC system automatically reduces your bills.
FACT: While it’s true that efficiency begins with an efficient HVAC system, one of the most persistent myths about electricity use is that this is all that’s needed. No system can work efficiently without proper insulation or if it’s not suited to the space. Proper installation and setup is essential to its performance.
